Guest Lecture on Gender inequality, Women and Society

Department of Humanities organized Infinity, Guest Lecture week for the students of BA Humanities. Sociology department organized guest lecture on Gender Inequality, Women and Society.

Ms. Manjula Anupama, MA,MBA,PGDHRM,(Ph.D-Gender studies) gave lecture on the Topic. She covered the gender Inequality in Indian context especially women’s status starting from the Vedic Period to the present scenario. She has covered Feminism and its development, importance of maintaining equal rights and status to women in the society and the importance of women empowerment to make the women into the main stream of the society.

She also discussed about various issues faced by the women in the society and the portrayal of women in media in various situations. Importance of women Nutrition and Health of Women were also emphasized in her lecture. To alleviate the issues faced by the women, the existing Laws /Legislations related to women were also explained in detail and its application in the right context also emphasized.

The session was very interactive by making the students to involve into the session and allowed them to come up with their views and ideas. The portrayal of women in media and the importance of decision making capacity of women were elaborated with the help of videos and advertisements which are shown in TV. Students were asked questions and clarified their doubts.

The session was very effective and made the students to understand the concept of gender inequality, feminism, status of women in the society, Nutrition and health care aspects of women, Legislative frame work related to women’s Issues etc.

The session was ended at 11.15 PM. The guest was welcomed with a flower bouquet and after the session, she was felicitated with a memento, certificate of appreciation and honorarium.
