A TREK TO RAMDEVARABETTA: 22 OCTOBER 2023 – NATIONAL CADET CORPS (NCC)

On 22nd October 2023, trekking activity was conducted by cadets of SFS degree college belonging to 1/1 COY ARMY WING under the leadership of our ANO Capt. Sampath Kumar R.The trekking activity was held at Ramdevarabetta, Tumkur. A total of 100 cadets were a part of this trek. We started our trek around 12 in the noon. Ramdevrabetta is a trekking spot in Tumkur, Karnataka wherea statue - Ramnagar standing tall at a height of 3800 feet can be seen. This place also has relevance to Hindu Mythology related to Ramayana. On the top of the hill lies small temples dedicated to Lord Rama, Hanuman, Ganesh, and Shiva Parvati. There are about 100 steps for pilgrims to visit the temple. It is a very sacred place and widely worshipped and believed by worshippers.

Ramadevara Betta is also popularly known for the location of Bollywood's most iconic movie 'Sholay'. This is the place that was converted into Gabbar's hideout and the movie's best scenes and songs were shot here. For several decades, the place is also home to Egyptian and white-backed Vultures due to which it was declared as a vulture sanctuary by the forest department. But due to continuous temple visits the vulture ratio have gone down drastically.

Cadets had a great time enjoying the nature's beauty while trekking. We also learnt many mesmerizing facts about this hill and the mythological story behind this hill. It took approximately 4-5 hours to finish this trekking activity.
