SESSION ON “PROBLEM SOLVING & IDEATION”: 6 NOVEMBER 2023 - DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS, SCHOOL OF SCIENCE

The primary objective of the workshop was to equip participants with practical problem-solving techniques and enhance their ability to generate innovative ideas. The session aimed to encourage a structured approach to tackling challenges and to stimulate creative thinking.

Problem-solving is how we move from identifying an issue or new need in our world or work to deciding on a way to resolve the issue or serve the need. Problem solving requires both an ability to correctly define a problem and finding a solution to it. Ideation in turn is often regarded as creativity, the ability to come up with new ideas and ways of doing, of testing the ideas and thus solving problems.
A session on Problem solving & ideation was conducted on 6th November 2023 by the Department of Mathematics for III Semester B.Sc. students. The resource person for the session was Johnson Pereira, Assistant Professor, School of Commerce, St Francis de Sales College, Bangalore-100.

Resource person shared his knowledge & experience on the multiple aspects and the many steps involved in problem solving and ideation process. He further elaborated on Good Idea Vs Bad idea and Best Student Entrepreneurship Practices that can be adopted to enhance the student’s abilities in solving critical problems. The important aspects covered by the speaker during the session were
1. The concept of Entrepreneurship
2. Importance of innovation and idea generation
3. Importance of problem solving
4. The skills, characteristics, attributes and functions of Entrepreneurs
5. The importance of creative thinking and strategic thinking

About 74 students attended the session. The queries of the students were very well handled by the speaker. The overall feedback of the session was very positive.Event concluded with an opportunity for students to explore challenges and their solutions with different ideas and deep approach.
