WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY 2023: 17 OCTOBER 2023 - DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGY, SCHOOL OF HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES.
In view of “World Mental Day, 2023” the Department of Psychology, School of Humanities and Social Sciences organized various events to bring awareness and to celebrate the day in association with the Counselling cell & DISHA. The theme for this year’s “World Mental Day” given by WHO is 'Mental health is a universal human right.” Following the legacy of promoting mental health, the department of Psychology in association with the Counselling cell and Disha organized various events, cognitive games, and awareness program. The event began with considerate planning and idea pooling. The activities for the day were executed in different segments.
awareness program was organized in the college quadrangle to impart the essentialness of caring for subjective wellbeing and psychological health of students. Students were showing the placards and shouting the slogans for bringing awareness on mental health importance. The Principal, Fr. Binu was invited to give a speech on World Mental health day and stressed on the importance of psychological wellbeing and how necessary it is for professionals to be watchful of their mental health. There were mental checkup stalls set up which was open to all the students and faculty. The scoring was done immediately and results, interpretation was informed. Based on the interpretation the clients were suggested some strategies or was further told to take up counselling sessions.
The walkathon commemorating the World Mental health day brought immense awareness in the students as well as the public on building a physically and mentally healthy society. It also helped in normalizing and reducing stigma regarding the mental health issues. The oath taken by the students instilled a sense of responsibility among Psychology students as they were the budding professionals. The mental health day celebrations contributed towards building a compassionate and informed society. The students learned to assess certain tools, administer certain scales and also initiate small talk therapy for people in need.
